There are many monasteries or temples (Wat) around Pai. Here are a few to get you started:

Wat Phra That Mae Yen

The giant white Buddha overlooks Amphoe Pai from the East. This temple sits in the hills a short drive out of town. It’s close enough for riding a bicycle. There are two ways to get up to the temple, going up the road or walking up the Naga staircase. In addition to paying respect, visitors can appreciate the sweeping view of Pai.

Wat Klang

This Thai Yai temple is one of the oldest in Pai. Being near the bus station, it is very easy to make a visit. The best time to visit is when the sun is going down as the structures are illuminated with a golden glow.

Wat Nam Hu

This temple is 3km from Pai Hospital. It is believed to have been built 400 years ago by King Naresuan for his older sister, Phra Suphan Gunlaya, who went to live as a hostage to the King of Burma.
